Early planning will help reduce the stress of moving. Here are some tips that we find helpful:
Before the Move:
- Inventory all of the items you want to move.
- Garage Sale: Time to get rid of the stuff you havent used for years.
- Get Moving Companies estimates.
- See if your new employer is covering any moving expenses (if work-related relocation)
Four Weeks:
- Give Notice to current Landlord (for tenants).
- Put valuables in a safe deposit box.
- Get Records of: prescriptions, eyeglasses, x-rays, children's medical & schoolrecords, pets medical immunizations (for cross-country move).
- Change of address notice to: post office, friends, family, banks, retirement accounts, magazines, credit cards, insurance companies (auto, health & home).
- Ask current medical professionals for possible referrals.
- Give notice of cancellation to: newspaper & utility companies.
- Drain gas, oil, propane from lawn mover, bar-b-que, etc.
One week before moving:
- Notify 3:16 team when you are moving.
- Close current bank accounts, locate new bank and order checks (if move is far)
- Empty freezer.
- Separate personal / family items for travel from items for the movers.
- Plan for special needs of pets / children.
- Remove valuables fro safe deposit box.
- Call for utilities to be turned in your name a couple of days prior to your move-in date.
Moving Day:
- Be at the house the entire time the movers are there.
- Double check with moving company on delivery address and date (if cross-country move).
- Carry valuables (jewelry and documents) personally.
- Make a final tour of your residence to make sure nothing is left behind. Open all cabinets and drawers.
- Disconnect all utilities.
- Lock all doors and windows.
- Leave old keys with appropriate person.
When you arrive:
- Make sure 3:16 team REALTY is listed as your referral source on your paperwork at your new home.
- Make sure 3:16 team REALTY has all your move-in information.
- Check on service of utilities (telephone, gas, electric, water, cable, trash removal).
- Check pilot lights on stove, hot water and furnace.
- Change your drivers license.
- Register your vehicles within 5 days (for out-of-state move).
- Register children in school.
- Arrange for new medical professionals.
- Obtain phone numbers for emergencies.
- Register to vote.

Important Note:
Prior ot your move, find out when your lease expires. In most cases, it is more advantegous to move right before your lease expires. Unless you are subjected to danger or immediate major circumstance changes, it is not advisable to buy out your lease.
